nice article Mike I have installed Oracle products for years and it seems OSS stuff from Oracle is always the toughest. Glad to see it is easier to use these days.

Thanks to Dimitris for pointing out the following :

Hi, from what I’ve found you probably need one more change, in /usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/bin/nls_lang.sh

In line 114 there’s:

if [[ -n "$LC_ALL" ]]; then

This should become

if [ -n "$LC_ALL" ]; then

otherwise when starting SQL*Plus from the Applications menu you get an error in this file.
